This perennial plant is a superstar in the permaculture world for its multitude of uses and benefits. With deep roots it is known as a mineral miner, opening up the soil profile and and tapping into nutrients deep within the soil. The leaves are a potent compost activator and a valuable food for poultry and other animals. The flowers are beloved by bees. Comfrey also has many well known medicinal qualities such as its reputation as a ‘bone setter’ in the treatment of breaks with a poultice.
Grow: Best planted in early spring in full sun or partial shade.
